Regulatory Bodies

Regulatory Bodies

On this page I will be identifying a range of different regulatory bodies and describing their contribution to the running of safe sporting activities. On this page the regulatory bodies that I will be writing about are:
  1. Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  2. Sport England
  3. England Athletics

Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

What's the HSE's job?
The health and safety executive is a regulatory body that has a job to make sure that workplace's are as safe as possible in many different ways. They need to make sure that the workplace's environment is a safe environment. The HSE is responsible for the enforcing, encouraging and regulating health and safety at workplace's for example building sites, sports centres, sports grounds, centres and many more. They do this job all around the united kingdom. The also look into industrial major and minor accidents so that they can find a solution to prevent future situations like ones in the past from happening again.

Regarding to health and safety the HSE has uncountable number of responsibilities in all types of areas. For example here are some of the responsibilities that the HSE take care off to make sure we work in a safe environment. They take care of building sites, farms, factories, nuclear installations, schools, colleges, fairgrounds and many many more.

What does the HSE do to maintain health and safety at a sports centre?
At a sports centre they would take care of many different things to cover all aspects of health and safety. Look at the list below and see for yourself.
-Food: vending machines etc to make sure the food is eatable and not expired.
-Hygiene: to make sure everything is cleaned properly.
-Safe building construction: to make sure the building is safe.
-COSHH: To make sure substances are used correctly and in a safe way.
-Statutory Laws: To make sure all the laws are being followed as they should be.
-Transport: To make sure that everyone has safe and easy access to the workplace.
-Workplace temperature: To make sure the temperature is suitable for people at the workplace. So that its not too hot or too cold.
-Risk assessments: To make sure all the risk assessments are being done correctly and regularly.
-Safety Equipment (PPE): To make sure all the equipment is in place e.g. first aid kits, fire extinguishers.

Sport England

What's Sport England's job?
The main job that Sports England has is to create opportunities for people and communities
across the whole country so that people can start to participate in more sporting activities so
that they can start a sporting habit for life. To make all of this happen the national lottery
has invested £1 Billion between 2012 and 2017. All of this money is invested in organisation
and projects. Thanks to this investment it will:

- Allow more people to have a opportunity to have a sporting habit for life.
- Create more opportunities for younger people to start playing sports.
- Help develop talent's
- Provide more safe facilities in different chosen places.
- Help in many more different aspects such as local funding s etc.

Regarding health and safety Sports England doesn't just look at general safety such as
environmental safety of sports centre's but also their main aim is to help young adults
maintain a healthy and active life style so that their general health is at good levels as it will
be beneficial for them when they are older.

Sports England relates to our sports centre's a lot because thanks to them we have safely
built sports centre's which are set in safe places and not in locations where there could be
dangers around. This allows us to participate in sporting activities in a safe environment
which makes the sporting activities much more fun for young adults to participate in.

England Athletics

What's the England Athletics job?
Athletics might make you think of high levels of fitness and hard work which then makes you
not really want to join any athletics club or participate in events. England athletics has 3
main objectives that they want to achieve these are to:

Number One: To increase the number of participants across the whole community!
Number two: To improve the experience of every participant and show them that athletics
are actually really fun!
Number three: To help develop the next generation of athletes!

England/UK Athletics relate to health and safety too because they try to prevent any risks
and hazards so that the environment is a safe environment and that all the participants are
not in danger of being hurt in any sort of way. For example England Athletics do risk
assessments because before any activity starts or is planned they need to check for any risks
and if there are any potential risks then they have to be acted upon straight away and
eliminated.

How does England Athletics link to our sports centre's? Well, they do a lot because sports
centre's usually have athletic sports however, that's not only what links sports centre's and
England Athletics. In sports centre's health and safety is the first thing that has to be
checked first before anything else is done just like in the England Athletics. Health and safety
is essential before anything can start because we want participants, workers etc to be in the
safest environment possible so that they are in no danger of getting injured.
